Welcome to Dongche Tibetan Language School

Dongche Tibetan Language School was first built in September 1951, formerly in Pon tshang village. Through the years the location of the school has changed several times until in 1997 the Italian non governmental organization ASIA ONLUS with the collaboration of the Government of Khrika (Guide) county built the present school in the village of Dongche, approximately 15 km south west of Khrika (Guide) county. The school is located at an altitude of 2314 meters.
Our school hosts 374 students and 35 teachers, the boarding students are 256. In all, there are 13 classes including the kindergarden. The majority of our students come from the 15 villages in Hexi and Xinjie township.
The whole school land covers a surface of 13334 square meters, while the built area is 2004 square meters. The school compound includes 12 classrooms, 9 offices one for each school department, a multimedia room provided with a projector and a wide screen, a computer room equipped with 32 computers all connected to Internet, a library, an archive with several ancient Tibetan books, a basketball court and a football pitch.

The teachers’ dormitory measures about 300 square meters, while the students’ dormitory is about 360 square meters. The size of the kitchen is about 88 square meters.
Our school boasts a well-knit group of highly prepared and motivated teachers. The first and foremost concern of our school is to always improve the preparation, as well as the methodology of our teachers, hence in order to do that we encourage the trainings. We believe that by improving the quality of our teachers we will also provide our students a better and more open-minded education.
Being a Tibetan school, we are firmly concerned about the teaching of Tibetan language. We are also aware of the importance in nowadays world of English language, and that is why we strongly supported the coming here of foreign English teacher, through the help of the Italian Ngo, ASIA ONLUS.
In recent years the quality of our school has largely increased, thank to the students and the teachers’ hard work. In 2002 our school won the prize “Safe and Sound Schoolyard”. In 2007, 3 students were awarded with an excellent mark in the National English Proficiency Contest. Moreover, during the annual examination of the Education Department, the Class 9 was the best in Guide county and the fifth among all the schools in Tsolho prefecture, and Class 6 was the best in Hexi township.
